The Stone Houses
/
This project involves constructing a residential building comprising three units in Somerset as part of a larger development. The challenge was designing within limited space between existing dwellings and a tall boundary stone wall. Despite small unit sizes aimed at affordability, ensuring a minimum standard of living space was a priority. Simplifying the design concept was key.
The design began with consideration of surrounding buildings. The new building's volume aligns with existing roof lines. The south façade, partly on the stone wall, echoes nearby façade compositions. A small private patio on the east side is shared between the units. The modern façade contrasts sharply with the old, enhancing the building's unique character.
